Why does wrinkles appear?
Wrinkles are a natural part of the ageing process. As people get older, their skin becomes thinner, drier, and less elastic, which means it is less able to protect itself from damage. This leads to wrinkles, creases, and lines on the skin.
Facial expressions, such as smiling, frowning, or squinting, lead to the development of fine lines and wrinkles at a young age. These lines deepen as the person gets older.
When a person is young, their skin springs back. As they get older, the skin loses its flexibility, and it becomes more difficult for the skin to spring back, resulting in permanent grooves.
What causes wrinkles?
Many factors affect the development of wrinkles, including:
- sun exposure
- smoking
- dehydration
- some medications
- environmental and genetic factors
Exposure to ultraviolet (UV) light from sunbathing, tanning booths, and outdoor sports increases the development of wrinkles.
UV light breaks down the collagen and elastin fibers in the skin. These fibers form the connective tissue that supports the skin. As this layer breaks down, the skin becomes weaker and less flexible. The skin starts to droop, and wrinkles appear.
Darker skin contains more melanin and protects from many harmful effects of UV radiation.
Regular smoking accelerates the aging process of skin because it reduces the blood supply to the skin. Alcohol dehydrates the skin, and dry skin is more likely to develop wrinkles.
How to protect your skin & minimizing the appearance of wrinkles:
Everybody gets wrinkles and lines that become more prominent over time. Some ways to prevent or reduce their development include:
- Using sun protection.
Avoiding UV exposure reduces skin damage. Dermatologists recommend wearing a hat and clothing to protect the skin and using a sunscreen of SPF 30 or higher every day. - Moisturizing regularly.
Moisturizing prevents dryness, which reduces the chance of wrinkles forming. - Eating a healthful, balanced diet.
Eating plenty of fruit and vegetables can prevent skin damage, whereas sugar and refined carbs can speed up skin aging. - Washing your face twice a day.
Use a gentle cleanser. Rubbing the skin can cause irritation and speed up skin aging. - Washing your face after heavy sweating.
Sweat can irritate the skin, causing damage over time. This is especially true when wearing a hat or helmet.

Hyperpigmentation. Removing Dark Spots from your skin.
Key factor of hyperpigmentation
Sun damage is the number one cause of patches of hyperpigmentation, and you can do a lot to prevent sun damage by applying SPF and staying out of direct sunlight. To treat darker skin pigmentation, using products that contain ingredients such as retinol or Niacinamide can help.
How to Prevent Hyperpigmentation
Although not all causes of hyperpigmentation can be prevented, there are some steps you can take to prevent certain instances of hyperpigmentation:
- Avoid direct sunlight.
Try to stay out of the sun during the peak hours of 10 am to 2 pm. Sit under a sun umbrella or in the shade when you’re outdoors to minimize your sun exposure. - Use a hat.
Shade your face and scalp with a wide-brimmed hat. - Apply SPF.
Choose sun protection that is at least SPF 15 and use it daily, even in the cooler months, to protect your skin from harmful UV rays. - Limit touching your skin.
Scratching or picking a mosquito bite or a spot can result in inflammation and lead to darker pigmentation on your face, so it’s best to avoid touching your skin. When you do touch your skin, for example when applying your skin care or makeup, make sure you wash your hands first.

Tackling Acne Scars the right way
Living with acne skin can be difficult but, for many, the problems continue after the papules and pustules have cleared up. Acne can leave skin marked and scarred and, if someone has experience severe acne, the subsequent scarring can be equally severe and distressing.
Scars form when the outermost layers of skin, the epidermis, has been damaged and the deeper layers of the skin are also affected. Skin is unable to regenerate itself exactly as it was so the wound is replace by granulation tissue which is made up of collagen fibers. These fibers fill the wound from the inside out and help to heal the damaged area of skin. This replacement tissue may heal the injury, but can also remain visible.
Treating Acne Scars
Acne might be a temporary problem, but acne scars if not treated well, can become a permanent problem. Acne scars are actually not true scars, they are post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation (PIH), which is a temporary skin discoloration that will slowly fade away with proper care.
Types of Acne Scars
Acne can cause atrophic scars known as ‘ice pick’ scars
There are several different types of scars. The following are those most closely associated with acne:
- Atrophic scars
These are pitted or sunken scars and are sometimes referred to as `ice pick scars`. They develop when a wound does not heal correctly and too little binding tissue is formed. The scar then develops beneath the surrounding tissue and a small, visible indentation (dimple) develops. - Hypertrophic scars
You can recognize hypertrophic scars from an elevation in the skin or scar tissue. Where there was previously an inflamed blemish, the skin produces ‘inferior’ tissue. This doesn’t have the same structure as healthy tissue and therefore becomes thicker and sits above the surrounding skin. - Keloids
When a Hypertrophic scar continues to grow and spreads into other areas of the skin it is known as a keloid. Keloid scars are raised and are a reddish purple when new but then fade. This form of scar is only occasionally caused by acne, it is more commonly associated with burns.

What causes Sensitive skin?
Sensitive skin generally refers to skin that is more prone to inflammation, they usually are symptoms of another condition. You may not even know you have sensitive skin until you have a bad reaction to a cosmetic product, like soap, moisturizer, or makeup.
There are different factors causing sensitive skin, such as:
Dry Skin
You can treat dry skin by returning moisture to the affected areas. Applying a moisturizing cream or ointment two to three times per day will help restore moisture and prevent your skin from drying out in the future. Try using a fragrance-free moisturizer designed for people with sensitive skin.
Eczema
Eczema (atopic dermatitis) affects your skin’s ability to protect you from irritants, like germs in the air or chemicals in your laundry detergent. This can make you extra sensitive to products that don’t bother other people, like soaps and cosmetics.
Irritant contact dermatitis
Irritant contact dermatitis is a red, itchy rash that develops when the protective layer of your skin is damaged by something it touches.
Allergic contact dermatitis
Allergic contact dermatitis is a less common form of contact dermatitis. It occurs when you have an allergic reaction to a specific substance.
Ways to reduce the occurance of Sensitive skin:
People with sensitive skin may also be able to minimize symptoms by:
- taking shorter showers and baths that last less than 10 minutes
- avoiding using very hot water for bathing and washing the hands
- avoiding harsh fragrances, detergents, or other chemicals
- using fragrance-free, hypoallergenic products, such as soaps, deodorant, and detergent
- avoiding harsh chemical cleaners
- patting rather than rubbing the body dry
- testing new products on a small area of skin before applying them to more extensive areas
You can keep a journal of the products that you use each day to help identify any possible triggers of symptoms on your skin. If you found a product they believe is causing a reaction, they should stop using it and take it to their dermatologist to undergo testing for allergies.
Seek Professional Help
There are a lot of different conditions that can cause skin sensitivity. Some require more serious and diligent treatment than others. If you suspect your skin condition involves an allergic response, you should consider making an appointment with an allergist.

What is Hyaluronic Acid?
Hyaluronic Acid is produced by fibroblasts, the same cells that make collagen, in the dermis, the second layer of skin. It’s the key molecule involved in skin moisture because it absorbs up to 1,000 times its weight in water. Think of hyaluronic acid as a sponge in your skin that holds on to moisture and keeps your face looking plump and dewy.
HA is a Powerful Humectant
Humectants like hyaluronic acid typically have a watery texture and absorb quickly (think liquidy serums), whereas emollients (i.e., creams and oils) are thicker and stay more on your skin’s surface, don’t absorb as quickly, and work to lock everything in. Hyaluronic acid is often combined with other runny humectants (like glycerin and urea) and water. The water part is important, it gets bound by the hyaluronic acid and then delivered to your skin. This is one of the ways hyaluronic functions as the greatest moisturizing ingredient ever.
Hyaluronic Acid’s function
Our skin’s main function is to protect our body. Obviously, our skin protects our internal organs, muscles, bones, etc. from the outside world. But, our skin also protects the body from harmful toxins that bombard us on a daily basis.
The top layer of the skin (the epidermis) takes the brunt of outside damage (toxins). As we age, the lipid barrier (fatty acids that trap in water and prevent irritants entering the skin) in the epidermis slows down. Everything from UV rays, to environmental pollution, to lifestyle choices (like smoking) cause damage. This damage results in more fine lines and wrinkles, dark spots, and drier skin.
Hyaluronic Acid fortifies the skin’s natural barriers to help lock moisture in for an even more dramatic hydrating effect. Over time, this can help slow down the the deterioration of the lipid barrier and help protect and fortify it.
